Job Description

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for researching, developing, and documenting system level architectures inclusive of the full technology stack to be designed into advanced automatic traffic sensing and control applications.

This role requires working knowledge of municipal power distribution, solar energy harvesting, electronic hardware design, embedded systems, fail-safe signal processing algorithms, wired and wireless communication protocols, TCP/IP, power line communication, industrial IoT and functional safety. Collaborate with Applications Engineering and Product Marketing resources to convert Market Requirements into Product Requirements and Specifications.


Essential Job Functions

Publish and maintain Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) for New Product Development Programs.
Develop architectural block diagrams for traffic control equipment and integrated systems.
Research and Qualify System on a Chip (SoC), Modules and Devices to enable Wireless Connectivity across the product platform
Identify, develop and qualify common components, modules, sub-systems and methods including a telemetry stack model that can be leveraged across the Product Platform to increase design reuse, decrease detailed design cycle time, enable remote diagnostics and health monitoring.
Perform detailed design of electronic circuits and embedded software as needed to enable new product development product plans
Develop and document Interface Control Drawings (ICDs) for Engineered Systems for Customer Applications and Installations
Lead system level troubleshooting and failure analysis efforts of complex multi-variable field issues
Identify continual improvement actions to improve the state of the art for advanced traffic sensing and control applications
Peer review the work products of product development resources across the engineering organization
Lead effort to perform benchmarking and performance analysis of competitive products

Job Requirements

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Systems or Computer Engineering

Technical Experience & Skills:
12+ years of related product development experience
5+ years experience designing power distribution, mixed signal, analog and digital circuits
5+ years experience developing embedded systems for 32 bit ARM Cortex class processors
Mastery of C language programming as it pertains to an embedded environment.
Ability to read schematics to troubleshoot, debug and bring up new hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers and in-circuit emulators.
Experience in standard architecture documentation methods (e.G. UML)
